Copayments
Members of an HMO may be charged only nominal amounts—copayments—
for basic services in addition to the original monthly payment. In
many cases,
no additional payments are required for services. All of this is
spelled out in
a descriptive document, which is called either the certificate of
coverage or the
evidence of coverage.
On the other hand, HMOs are permitted to require copayments on
supplemental
services as well as charge an amount that is added to the monthly
fee.
